  1. General Terms and Conditions (GTC) SBB Online Shop

    1. Subject matter of contract

    These General Terms and Conditions (GTC) govern the conclusion, content and performance of contracts between Swiss Federal Railways or third-party providers, a joint-stock company under special law with registered office in Bern (hereafter referred to as SBB) and its customers in relation to the sale of goods, services and currency exchange products (foreign currencies) through the SBB online shop (hereafter referred to as the SBB Online Shop).

    When ordering insurance services, the Customer consents to the General Terms of Insurance of the Insurer (GTI) and a contractual relationship shall be established directly between the Customer and the Insurer in accordance with the GTI. With regard to these insurance products, the SBB Online Shop acts only as an intermediary for the offer of insurance products between the Customer and the Insurer. SBB is not a party to the contractual relationship between the Customer and the Insurer and the relevant GTI exclusively are applicable.

    When ordering food products from providers other than SBB (third-party providers), the Customer enters into a legally binding contract of sale directly with the provider for the food products ordered. With regard to these food products, the SBB Online Shop acts only as an intermediary for the order of food products between the Customer and the third-party provider. SBB is not a party to the contractual relationship between the Customer and the third-party provider.

    Orders for SBB luggage are subject exclusively to the provisions of the ch-direct tariff T602 in the currently valid version.

    2. Conclusion of contract

    The contract between the Customer and SBB is concluded once a binding order has been placed in the SBB Online Shop.

    A binding contract shall be concluded between the Customer and a third-party provider upon receipt of the order confirmation.

    Usage of certain areas or functions of the SBB Online Shop may be subject to specific policies, standards or rules or may require the Customer and/or the third-party provider to consent to additional terms and conditions of use. In the event of any discrepancy between these GTC for the SBB Online Shop and the terms and conditions of use for a particular area or function within the SBB Online Shop, unless specified otherwise the latter shall take precedence in relation to the use of this area or function.

    SBB reserves the right to amend, supplement or cancel any or all of these GTC for the SBB Online Shop at any time at its discretion. Any amendment to the GTC for the SBB Online Shop shall be published in the SBB Online Shop. Customers and providers will be requested to read and accept the new GTC for the SBB Online Shop when they next use the Online Shop after the changes have taken effect.

    3. Product offerings & prices

    The Customer must pay the price for the purchase of a product displayed in the SBB Online Shop and valid at the time of the conclusion of the contract. SBB places great importance on making product details, images and descriptions as precise as possible. Nevertheless, there may be errors in the description, depiction or pricing, such that all products and prices in the SBB Online Shop must be considered non-binding and subject to change.

    Any food product offered by a third-party provider must be posted online accurately along with an image, title and price (advert). Every price for a food product must be stated including value added tax.

    The exchange rate valid at the time of the order shall apply to foreign currency.

    4. Foreign currency orders

    Depending on the Customer’s preference, foreign currency may be collected at an SBB Change counter or delivered to their home.

    The currencies available for order are listed at www.sbb.ch/en/change. The minimum order value is the equivalent of CHF 100. The maximum order value varies depending on the currency. In the case of orders that are being delivered to the Customer’s home the equivalent value may not exceed CHF 1,500.

    The Customer must fill in the order form truthfully. The Customer will receive an order confirmation to the e-mail address provided. SBB reserves the right to oblige the Customer to identify themselves by means of a valid and official identification document when collecting the currency ordered and to clarify the financial background for the transaction. SBB also reserves the right to refuse the currency exchange transaction.

    A currency exchange transaction will only be undertaken if it complies with legal and regulatory provisions. If the currency cannot be delivered, SBB will inform the Customer accordingly and SBB’s delivery obligation shall lapse without the Customer being entitled to any claims of compensation.

    Collection of the foreign currency at the counter: The ordered currency must be collected at the SBB Change counter of the train station selected when the order is placed. The opening hours can be found at www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/railway-stations/further-stations.html.

    When placing the order, the Customer must state the desired collection date. The earliest possible collection date will be indicated to the Customer when they place the order. The collection date may not be more than 21 days after the order date. If the order is not collected within one week of the collection date indicated, SBB reserves the right to cancel the contract and to use the ordered currency for another purpose. The Customer shall liable to pay compensation to SBB for any loss or damage, including in particular any costs incurred or currency fluctuations experienced.

    Delivery of the foreign currency to the Customer’s home: Delivery of the ordered currency takes place after payment. Foreign currency will be sent by A Mail Plus exclusively to private addresses in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

    If the account specified by SBB is not credited within one week of the order being placed, SBB reserves the right to cancel the contract and to use the ordered currency for another purpose. The Customer shall liable to pay compensation to SBB for any loss or damage, including in particular any costs incurred or currency fluctuations experienced.

    5. Exchange rate

    SBB’s “sell” rate for banknotes at the time of the order shall apply. The amount to be paid will be shown when the order is placed and will be e-mailed to the Customer with the order confirmation.

    6. Provisions on cash transactions

    It is the Customer’s responsibility to ensure that any restrictions on cash transactions, such as the import regulations of a particular country, are observed.

    7. Availability & delivery

    All products displayed can in principle be delivered. They are usually delivered within three to five working days of the order being placed. If the products are not in stock, the delivery time is given as a guide in the shop.

    If delivery is delayed, the Customer will be informed accordingly. The obligation of SBB to make the delivery or to complete the order shall lapse if SBB is not itself supplied with the product or if the service is unavailable. In this event, any costs already paid by the Customer will be reimbursed.

    This section shall not apply to products or services offered by third-party providers.

    8. Shipping costs

    Fr an order amount under CHF 50.00 we charge shipping costs of CHF 7.90. From CHF 50.00 the shipping is free of charge, whereby the shipping of the goods including their contents is not insured. We ship within Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

    SBB Change charges money exchange fees. These are communicated on https://commerce.sbb.ch/en/currency-exchange.html

    This section shall not apply to products or services offered by third-party providers.

    9. Payment terms

    Depending on the products selected, the means of payment displayed in the SBB Online Shop may be used.

    10. Right of return

    The Customer has the right to return the SBB goods and to rescind the contract of sale within 14 days of receipt of the goods / the placing of an order for services. The right of return is not available for gift cards, vouchers, SIM cards (incl. eSIM), foreign currency, insurances, used items and services already used. If the Customer wish to return the goods, they must be sent back within 14 days of receipt in the original packaging and at the Customer’s cost to the following address:

    The Customer shall be reimbursed the price paid, excluding shipping costs, provided that the goods are returned undamaged and unused. If the goods are not sent back in their original packaging or if they show signs of use or damage, SBB reserves the right not to refund the full amount or to refuse reimbursement.

    This section shall not apply to products or services offered by third-party providers.

    11. Complaints and repair or exchange of goods

    The SBB goods delivered must be examined promptly after receipt and any complaints must be submitted by phone within two working days. The complaint must contain a detailed description of the defect. The same applies to any delivery of goods that is incomplete.

    The statutory warranty shall apply in the event that any SBB goods are defective. The Customer must contact SBB promptly to exercise its rights. The Customer shall not be entitled to reimbursement of the purchase price in the event of any defects. During the statutory warranty period, SBB may at its discretion rectify (repair) any defects confirmed, supply a defect-free replacement product in exchange or reimburse the purchase price subject to the return of the goods.

    This section shall not apply to products or services offered by third-party providers.

    12. Mobility

    The Webapp including the information contained in it may be used at the user’s own risk and responsibility. Unless required otherwise by law, neither SBB nor its information providers shall incur any liability. SBB accepts no liability in particular for the accuracy, up-to-date status and completeness of the information offered both in terms of its content as well as its presentation. If you book services of third-party providers through the Webapp, SBB shall only act as an intermediary in relation to the service and shall not bear any operational responsibility other than for debiting the means of payment.

    13. Liability

    SBB and/or its auxiliary agents shall not incur any liability for losses or damages resulting from slight or moderate negligence. In particular, SBB shall not incur any liability for indirect or consequential losses or damages, including in particular loss of profit. In addition, no liability shall be incurred for late delivery or non-delivery.

    A contract of sale for the food products of third-party providers shall be concluded between the Customer and the third-party provider with which an order has been placed through the SBB Online Shop. SBB provides no warranty that the food products ordered will be of satisfactory quality, will be consistent with the descriptions contained in adverts in the SBB Online Shop, will be received on time or will be available on time. Any defects in the product or provision thereof, or any defects in other services by the third-party provider should be notified directly to the relevant third-party provider.

    14. Retention of title

    The SBB goods shall remain the property of SBB until full payment has been received.

    15. Privacy Policy

    Protecting the privacy of its customers is of great importance to SBB. Please refer to the Privacy Policy at www.sbb.ch/datenschutz.

    The third-party provider warrants that all employees will comply with the data protection provisions of SBB.

    16. Linked websites

    In the event that any links to third-party websites are provided in relation to usage of the SBB Online Shop, SBB cannot accept any responsibility for the accuracy, completeness and lawfulness of the content of these third-party websites or for any offers, products and services available on them. These websites are no longer under the control of SBB. This shall also apply in the event that these websites contain the SBB logo or any other protected designation. Use of linked websites is at your own risk.

    17. Severability clause

    Should any term or part thereof within these GTC for the SBB Online Shop be found to be invalid, this term shall be replaced by a term with equivalent economic effect, and the remaining terms of these GTC for the SBB Online Shop shall remain fully valid.

    18. Place of jurisdiction and applicable law

    Any disputes arising between the Customer or third-party provider and SBB in relation to usage of the SBB Online Shop shall be resolved exclusively in accordance with Swiss law. It is explicitly stipulated that the provisions of the Vienna Convention (the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods/CISG, concluded in Vienna on 11 April 1980) shall not be applicable. Unless required otherwise under the law of civil procedure, the exclusive place of jurisdiction shall be Bern.
