Year after year, the iconic IC 2000 trains travel countless kilometres, taking passengers all across Switzerland. They are the setting for commuters’ stories, holiday adventures, reunions and farewells.

Do you remember the feeling of being in the IC 2000?

Although the old trains are being decommissioned, their story is not yet over. The original IC 2000 seat fabric is being used to create unique cushion covers that bring the journey to your home – and your sofa – rather than to an end. No two are exactly alike: perhaps yours rode the rails between Geneva and St. Gallen, perhaps through a winter you’ll never forget.

The material used comes from the SBB upholstery workshop and was originally intended for the backs of the seats or for the unused parts of the seats. Once taken out of service, the fabric is carefully cleaned and prepared for its new use. Each piece is handcrafted in the SBB Anyway saddlery in Bellinzona by people who are themselves making a fresh start, as their previous career path was no longer viable for health reasons. Two stories of transformation cross paths here: those of the fabric and those of the people who breathe new life into it.

The SBB ReMake cushion cover IC2000 embodies the idea of keeping materials in circulation for as long as possible. Instead of throwing away usable resources, they are given a new purpose and a new home. SBB ReMake stands for original upcycled products made from SBB’s old materials, giving end-of-life materials a new lease of life.
